A Bulgarian startup came to us with a brilliant idea: why not create a dating app that actually gets their local dating scene? They sought a fresh and intuitive digital solution that would enable people to form genuine connections, specifically designed with Bulgarian culture in mind.
Our team built it all from scratch: profiles, the matching system, messaging features, and that critical first impression. We wanted people to open the app and immediately think, “yeah, this just works”.
And the best part? The product was launched quickly, allowing the client to start gaining traction and welcoming their first users almost immediately after development wrapped up.
Challenges
- Building a Brand That Actually Stands Out. Dating apps are everywhere these days, and they all start to look the same. We set out to design an application that would catch people’s eye while still feeling natural to use.
- Striking a Careful Balance. Dating apps have to be engaging but also trustworthy. Creating a design that delivered both wasn’t straightforward.
- Simplifying Onboarding. The challenge was to create a flow that gets users set up smoothly, without the process dragging on.
- Crafting Simple Yet Powerful Profiles. Each profile needed to feel personal and inviting, but still clean and simple. Too much info felt heavy; too little felt empty.
- Creating Seamless User Experience. Every swipe, like, and message flows naturally, keeping users engaged without interruptions.
- Encouraging Active Conversations. Chat features had to feel dynamic and inviting, pushing people to start and continue conversations naturally.
- Maintaining a Cohesive UI. With features like swipe, match, chat, and profile editing, keeping the app visually consistent was essential.
- Prioritizing Mobile Users. We knew users would be reaching for their phones first, so we designed the entire experience around mobile from day one.
- Putting Trust First. Building trust was key, so we had to carefully present privacy settings, reporting tools, and safety prompts without disrupting the flow.
Our Solution
User Research & Persona Development
Our research felt like hosting focus groups at a Bulgarian coffee shop. Three types of daters emerged: busy professionals keeping things casual, people actively hunting for their soulmate, and older singles curious about modern dating. Every insight from their dating journeys influenced the features we knew we had to build.
User Journey Mapping
Next, we mapped the full user experience from signup to connection. People need to create profiles, explore potential matches, swipe or like, message safely, and manage interactions — all without confusion or friction. Mapping each step allowed us to create a smooth, intuitive flow that keeps users engaged.
Smart UX and Discovery Strategies
We analyzed competing dating apps and studied user behavior to spot gaps in the Bulgarian market. This informed a design that balances engaging interactions with clear navigation, while also making profiles and content discoverable through search and recommendations.
Interface Design & Layout Planning
The last thing users need is another complicated interface to learn. We designed something that feels intuitive – like they already know how to use it.
Our wireframes broke down complicated stuff like matching algorithms and chat features into simple, intuitive sections that work great whether you’re on your phone or laptop.
Development
We started with a blank canvas and built everything from scratch: a secure dating platform that could handle real growth. Think instant matching, push notifications that actually work, seamless messaging, and user profiles that people can truly customize.. The backend supports growing user numbers, manages interactions efficiently, and provides admins with simple tools to monitor activity and ensure safety.
Testing & Iteration
Then came the fun part: watching real people use the app on their own devices. We saw where they got stuck, what made them smile, and what frustrated them. All that feedback helped us create something that doesn’t feel like work to navigate.
Launch
Thanks to careful planning and efficient development, we launched the app quickly. Users began joining and interacting within weeks, validating the platform in the Bulgarian market and allowing the client to start building an active community almost immediately.
